Nebraska returned home for a Tuesday night game against the Kansas State Wildcats. It was a back-and-forth night most of the game with both teams, keeping it close. However, the Huskers were able to pull the upset with a three RBI double in the bottom of the ninth. Let’s look at what happened.
The game started off, pretty quiet with neither team scoring until the third frame. Kansas State started it off with one run in the top of the third. Nebraska immediately responded in the bottom of the third, tying the game at one. The Wildcats scored next with one run in the top of the sixth. Nebraska responded right away with three runs of their own in the bottom of the six. We took the lead 4-2. In the top of the seventh, Kansas State got three runs across taking back the lead 5-4. They added one more in the top of the ninth before the Big Red got the walk off victory via a three RBI double from Gabe Swanson! Nebraska won 7-6!
This was an impressive comeback for Nebraska. The game was close all night with both teams having multiple identical innings. Although we got in some difficult situations in the back half of the game, the Huskers were able to respond when we needed to. One player I have to highlight is Gabe Swanson. His three RBI double is what got us this victory. It was an impressive way to end the game, especially after the struggles we had early on. I’m proud of this team and the fight they showed tonight. Up Next, we have a three game Home series against Minnesota starting on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 PM.
