Nebraska faced the Creighton Bluejays for the final time in the 2025 season Tuesday night. It was not our best game, showing struggles, both offensively and defensively. We gave up too many free passes, which ultimately cost us this game and the series against our instate rivals.
The game started off slow with the first runs not coming until the third inning. Creighton struck first with two runs in the top of the third. They followed this up with a four spot in the top of the fourth. At the end of the fourth, the Bluejays led 6-0. Nebraska’s first runs came in the bottom of the fifth. We got two runs off of two hits. The Huskers followed this up with two more runs, one in the bottom of the seventh and one in the bottom of the eighth. These were both solo homers bringing us within two. In the top of the ninth, Creighton added two more runs. Nebraska got three runs in the bottom of the ninth bringing us one short of tying up the game. We ultimately lost 8-7.
This was not a great game for our Huskers. Although we came close in the bottom of the ninth, it just wasn’t enough. Offensively, we out hit Creighton 10-9 but were unable to overcome the deficit in the bottom of the ninth. As for the pitchers and Bullpen, we gave way too many free passes. These came from several walks and hit batters. Our pitching was inconsistent for most of the night which really hurt us. Unfortunately, these mistakes, along with our inability to score enough runs, lost us the game and the series. One thing we will need to work on going into our next series is eliminating the number of free passes we give the opposing team. This is a problem that has plagued Nebraska throughout the season. We will need to fix this quickly as we only have two more series left in the regular season. Michigan comes to town for a three-game series starting Friday. This will be our final series at home this season. First pitch is scheduled for 6 o’clock Friday night.
