Nebraska played their final home games of the 2025 season last weekend in a three-game series against the Michigan Wolverines. It was a good series, with us winning two out of the three games. We were pretty efficient on both sides of the ball which helped us take the series. Let’s look at how we got it done.
Game One
Game one was a good game for us with efficient pitching that helped us win this game. Michigan started off the scoring with one run in the top of the first. Nebraska responded in the bottom of the second with two runs, taking the lead. It was a quiet few innings before Nebraska added to our lead with one run in the bottom of the sixth. The Wolverines answered with one in the top of the eighth, but they could not get any more runs and we won 3-2.
This was a good game for Nebraska with very productive pitching. Pitcher Tucker Timmerman had a career day, only surrendering only one run across. This was also the most innings he has pitched thus far. It was a great performance from him, which will hopefully continue into our next series. As for our offense, we had seven total hits to go with our three runs. Overall, it was a great start to the series.
Game Two
Game two was similar to game one with it also being a close game the entire time. Michigan struck first with one run in the top of the fourth. Nebraska responded in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run homer, taking the lead 2-1. Michigan responded right away with one run in the top of the sixth. We were then tied at two. In the bottom of the ninth, the Huskers got a three-run homer off of the bat of Case Sanderson, ultimately winning the game 5-2.
This was a great game for us in a terrific way to get the win, especially on senior day. It was a pitchers’ duel for a majority of the game. The three-run walk off homer was a fantastic way to end the game. This win helped us secure the series win, which was a great feeling going into Sunday’s match up.
Game Three
Game three was a low scoring affair that did not produce much offense. The Wolverines scored first in the top of the second off of a solo home run. The Huskers got our one and only run of the game in the bottom of the seventh. Michigan followed this up with one run in the top of the eighth and one in the top of the ninth. Michigan won 3-1.
This wasn’t a very good game for us with our inability to produce much on the offensive side of the ball. As for our defense and pitchers, it was a pitching duel for most of the game. Both teams also committed one error. Although it wasn’t our best game, we were still able to win the series and keep our hopes alive for the postseason.
Overall Thoughts
Overall, this was a pretty good series for us. All three games were close and very competitive. I was very impressed with the pitchers and Bullpen throughout the weekend. Offensively, we didn’t score very many runs but did just enough to win two games to win the series. With this series win, we also kept our hopes alive to have a chance at playing in the postseason. Up next, we travel to West Lafayette to take on Purdue in a three-game series starting on Thursday. This is our last series of the regular season with first pitch set for 5 o’clock Thursday night.
