A 3-0 Start: Recapping Nebraska vs Northern Iowa

It finally happened! For the first time since 2016, Nebraska is starting their season with a record of 3-0! This was the Huskers third home game in a row. It was under the lights, and the atmosphere was great. Fans were excited to see our beloved team play and they did not disappoint. Let’s take a look at the game.

The game started out great for Nebraska, scoring on our opening drive with a pass from quarterback Dylan Raiola to tightend Carter Nelson. This was Nelson‘s first touchdown in college football and it was great to see. UNI scored a field goal on their opening drive. This was a drive that took up about 10 minutes and most of the first quarter. After that, Nebraska got the ball back and the team got rolling. Nebraska put up two more touchdowns and lead 21 to 3 at the half. As a fan, it felt amazing to watch our offense and defense both show up and dominate so early.

From there on out, our control of the game continued. Our offense continued to make plays, and the defense stopped the Panthers offense. We showed up in all three phases, and were consistent throughout the entire game. On the offensive side of the ball, Raiola spread the ball around and made many great and consistent decisions with it. Although he had one interception, he still had a great day. Raiola was 17 for 23, 247 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He was poised and looked great the entire game. Our defense also did well, getting one sack and one interception. Nebraska won the game 34 to 3. This was a dominant victory that was great to witness.

With it being so long since we had a start like this, it was impressive to see Nebraska do so well. I kind of expected the game to go like this, but watching them compete so efficiently on both sides of the ball was awesome. I think it was a great way to close out nonconference play and hopefully we can continue this success into Big Ten play.
