It was a difficult game today for our Huskers as we struggled both offensively and defensively. With so much on the line, including a trip to the Big Ten tournament, this was a must-win game. Unfortunately, it did not go our way. With several mistakes and breakdowns, we ultimately lost 83 to to 68.
The first half started out okay for our Huskers, making three three-pointers in a row. Unlike previous games, we started out hot, but unfortunately we were unable to maintain this momentum. After making those three pointers, we missed our next 11 three point attempts. We allowed Iowa to catch up and tie it at 18 a piece. From there, Iowa was able to take control. At halftime, Iowa led 40 to 35.
The second half did not go well for the Huskers. We collapsed offensively and defensively. It was difficult for us to make baskets, and every time we did, Iowa responded with baskets of their own. Unfortunately, we were never able to claw our way back in it and lost. Along with this loss, we do not qualify for the Big Ten tournament and now wait to see if we will play in the postseason.
Overall, this was a bad loss for our Huskers. This was a must-win game and we were unable to get it done. This marks our fifth consecutive loss and is a difficult way to end the regular season. It was also Senior Day and this isn’t how we wanted their last home game to go. I have to admit, I was very disappointed with this performance. It was very disheartening to witness. Offensively, we struggled to make baskets that we should’ve made. Defensively, we could not stop them from scoring which made for a long and difficult day. Hopefully, we will have a chance to play in the postseason. Now we wait to see what happens on Selection Sunday and if we will be playing more basketball.
