Huskers Take Midweek Game Against In-State Rival Bluejays

Nebraska stayed in state traveling to Omaha to take on the Creighton Bluejays Tuesday night. It was a good game for our Huskers, both offensively and defensively. Our pitchers along with the Bullpen had an excellent day which helped us get this win. This was the first time since 2023 that we beat the Bluejays! Let’s look at how we were able to get it done.

The game didn’t start out great, with us being down early.  Creighton got off to a quick start plating the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning. However, we responded in the top of the second, getting one run across. In the top of the third, we plated another run evening the game at two. The Bluejays got a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth taking the lead 3-2. In the top of the fifth, Nebraska tied it up again, adding one more run. From there, the Huskers took the lead with two more runs in the top of the sixth. We got an entrance run in the eighth, ultimately winning 6-3.

This was a good game, both offensively and defensively.  Offensively, we did a great job hitting with 12 total hits. The efficiency with which we were hitting the ball was a very positive sign and showing the improvement we’ve made on the offensive side. As for our pitchers, Bullpen, and defense, we were very productive against Creighton’s high-powered offense. We held their offense to only seven hits which is fantastic considering how explosive they can be. I was extremely impressed with our Bullpen and the effort they showed in this game. The Bullpen only allowed one run all night. This may have been one of the best performances from this unit thus far this season. Hopefully, it will continue the rest of the way. One thing I think we need to work on is limiting the number of base runners we leave offensively. Nebraska left a lot of runners on base throughout this game. This is a problem we’ve seen throughout the season and will need to be corrected. The Huskers need to take advantage of when we have runners in scoring position and try to lessen the number of times we leave runners stranded. I think this is something we can fix, hopefully soon. Overall, this was a very positive game from Nebraska. Next, the Huskers return home to face Northwestern in a three-game series starting Friday. First pitch is at 6 PM Friday night.
