It was a good start for our Huskers last night in the brand-new Crown tournament as we were able to turn things around in the second half and get a comeback victory against Arizona State. We struggled at times, both offensively and defensively but did not let this detour us. At one point, we were down by 11 but were able to claw back in it and ultimately got the victory. We won by a score of 86 to 78.
It was not a good start offensively or defensively for our Huskers in the first half. We had a difficult time making baskets offensively and struggled defending Arizona State’s offense. Offensively, we came out rusty and seemed as if we were discombobulated. Our defense had a difficult time stopping Arizona State from making baskets. We also had several scoring droughts in this half and allowed them to go on small runs. At halftime, we were down 38 to 30.
The second half went much better for our Huskers. We were down by 11 with about two minutes gone in the second half. However, this is when we started to turn things around. We were able to go on a few runs which shifted the momentum in our favor. Offensively, we started making baskets and defensively. We did a great job defending Arizona States offense. We had some key players show up in big moments which helped us win this game.
Overall, this was an impressive, second half comeback from our team. We showed a lot of fight and grit especially in the second half. We showed a lot of poise and didn’t let our struggles get to us. Our Huskers did a great job not allowing Arizona State to capitalize when they had opportunities. With this win, it will be the first time in program history that we will be playing in April. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m very proud of this team and excited for our next game. Hopefully we can keep this momentum going into the second round of the Crown. Up Next, we face Georgetown on Wednesday. Tip off is set for 8:30.
