Nebraska finally ended their six-game losing streak after beating Illinois and overtime last night. This was a much-needed win to help keep our hopes alive for the Big Ten tournament. Although we struggled shooting sometimes, our defense showed up when it needed to, and we did a great job forcing turnovers. This ultimately led to an 80 to 74 victory.
The Huskers definitely came to play last night. We never trailed and did not collapse like we had in previous games. Offensively, we struggled making shots but did not let this detour us. Unlike previous games, we did not turn over the ball very often with only six total turnovers. Defensively, we showed up and were able to guard and force a lot of Illinois turnovers. Illinois totaled 17 turnovers and we capitalized with 17 points off of these mistakes. This was impressive after our defensive struggles in the last few games.
One player who stood out was Brice Williams. His 27 total points were critical to helping us seal this win. Williams also contributed with eight rebounds and four assists. It was nice to see him get back on track.
Overall, this was a pretty good game for our Huskers. It was also our third ranked win this year. Hopefully we can keep this momentum going and pick up some more wins. Next up we travel to Oregon to play the 16th ranked Ducks.
