Nebraska Names John Butler as New Defensive Coordinator Along with Other Coaching Changes

After the departure of defensive coordinator Tony White, Nebraska has found their next DC. It was announced Monday by ESPN that John Butler would be taking over this position. Last year, he served as our secondary coach. He has coached at the collegiate level before. In 2013, Butler held the role of defensive coordinator for Penn State. He has also been an NFL coach for nine seasons.

This was not the only coaching change made on Monday. The Huskers also hired Phil Simpson as the outside linebackers coach, Terry Bradden as the defensive line coach and Phil Snow as the associate head coach. These changes come after the transfer portal opened up and as Nebraska gets ready for their Bowl game.

I have to admit, I’m not surprised that Butler was named as defensive coordinator, but I am a little skeptical. After watching the struggles in our secondary last year, this does worry me a bit. However, I am optimistic and do think that he will do well. He will have a lot of time to plan and prepare for next season, which I think may lead to successful results. Please leave your thoughts about the coaching changes on social media.

GBR.
