Nebraska Shocks Michigan State in Extra Innings Tuesday Night

Nebraska played its first game in the Big Ten tournament against Michigan State Tuesday night. The Big Ten has adopted a new format this season where three teams are in one bracket and will face one another with the winner advancing to the next round. Nebraska is the eighth seed and faced 12th ranked Michigan State. This was a must win game for our Huskers with us having to play first ranked Oregon Friday night. Although it started out rough, we were able to get the win 5-4.

The Spartans and Huskers both got one run apiece in the first inning. In the top of the second, the Spartans tacked on two more runs. Michigan State got their final run of the game in the top of the fifth. The Huskers got two runs across in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to one. In the bottom of the ninth got one run, tying the game at four. With two outs, Robby Bolin got an RBI single, giving the Huskers the walkoff win.

This was an impressive comeback from our Huskers. Our pitchers and defense struggled early with an error and allowing a lot of walks. We also had a couple hit batters and a balk. As for our offense, we had an OK day at the plate with 12 total hits. Nebraska just had a hard time scoring until close to the end and left a lot of runners on base. One thing we need to clean up for our next game is limiting the number of walks and free passes that we give the opposing team. In this game, the Big Red gave way too many free passes and this is something that we can’t do on Friday. Up Next, we face first ranked Oregon in a game where Nebraska will need to win to advance to the semifinals. First pitch is scheduled for 6 PM Friday night.
